Offered DEC 19th, 2017

Ponsot Chambertin VV 2012
1 bottle available
$950 per bottle

95 points View From the Cellar: “A very cool and pure if highly restrained nose only grudgingly reveals subtle notes of wild red and dark berries, spice, hummus, wet stone and animale hints. There is first-rate detail and vibrancy to the beautifully well-detailed and imposingly scaled flavors that possess outstanding mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a driving mineral-driven, linear and complex finish. This too is going to need plenty of bottle age to unwind and flesh out as well as to soften what is presently a very firm tannic spine.”

Ponsot Chapelle Chambertin 2013
6 bottles available
$385 per bottle

(93-95) points Burghound: “The very spicy and exceptionally fresh, cool and airy earth-tinged nose features notes of red dark berry fruit aromas that are slightly riper than those of the Griotte. The supple, round and wonderfully rich medium weight plus flavors possess outstanding depth and length on the explosive finish where the supporting structure arrives quite suddenly. For years the Griotte has been the slightly better wine compared to the Chapelle but things seem to have shifted in favor of the Chapelle recently, probably because it seems to possess just a bit more dry extract; in any event that is the case in 2013 and because of it I give a small qualitative edge to the Chapelle.”

Ponsot Chapelle Chambertin 2014

$425 per bottle

95 points View From the Cellar: “Laurent Ponsot makes one of the most beautiful examples of this very, very underrated Gevrey grand cru and the 2014 Chapelle looks likely to be one of his finest vintages ever from this terroir. The stunning nose delivers a sappy constellation of red and black cherries, raw cocoa, a touch of meatiness, mustard seed, dark soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and already quite velvety on the attack, with a sappy core, great soil inflection, suave, ripe tannins and stunning backend energy on the focused and very, very pure long finish.”

(92-95) points Burghound: “Once again there is just enough reduction present to mask the underlying fruit but not the earth and underbrush elements; moreover it is sufficiently light that I doubt that it will persist for very long. Otherwise, there is a slightly finer mouthfeel to the sleek, intense and muscular mineral-driven flavors that explode on the sappy, rich and balanced finale that displays strikingly good length. However, note well that like the Charmes, this is definitely not constructed for early drinking so be prepared to have at least some patience.”

Ponsot Charmes Chambertin Cuvee des Merles 2015
6 bottles available
$325 per bottle (OWC (6))

(91-94) points Burghound: “A pretty yet very Gevrey nose displays notes of the sauvage, humus and underbrush along with plenty of newly turned earth character on the plum and red cherry-scented aromas. There is both good intensity and verve to the big-bodied and utterly delicious flavors that coat the palate with dry extract which also helps to buffer the very firm tannins on the brooding, youthfully austere and notably serious finale. This is borderline old school in style and is going to need plenty of cellaring.”

Ponsot Corton Bressandes 2015
12 bottles available
$325 per bottle

(91-94) points Burghound: “A slightly more elegant if still deeply pitched nose features aromas of red and dark raspberry, earth, floral nuances and an interesting hint of smoked meat. Consistent with the elegance of the nose the medium-bodied flavors are a bit finer as well though they certainly don’t lack for power, punch, and concentration, indeed this is even more firstly structured and the tannic spine makes it indisputably clear that this is going to be a long-distance runner.”

Ponsot Griotte Chambertin 2014
6 bottles available
$385 per bottle

95 points View From the Cellar: “The 2014 Griotte-Chambertin from Laurent Ponsot is a stunning wine in the making, soaring from the glass in a very red fruity mélange of cherries, beetroot, a touch of red plum, gentle notes of grilled meat, a superb base of limestone, mustard seed and woodsmoke in the upper register. On the palate, the wine is pure, full-bodied and very transparent in personality, with a sappy core of fruit, lovely focus and grip, suave tannins and a very, very long, tangy and impeccably balanced finish. Great Griotte in the making.”

(92-95) points Burghound: “A wonderfully spicy, elegant and fresh nose blends notes of red and dark cherry with those of cassis, plum, violet and discreet earth nuances. The intense and tautly muscular middle weight plus flavors are even more refined if perhaps not quite as mineral-driven while delivering superb length on the balanced but markedly austere finish where a touch of cherry pit emerges. This is also very clearly built-to-age and I wouldn’t dream of touching a bottle for at least 10 years and it should easily reward 20.”
