Clerico Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra 1.5L 2005
3 magnums available
$280 per magnum
96 points Wine Advocate: “The 2005 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra emerges from the glass with endless layers of sweet spices, menthol, violets and dark fruit on a powerful, authoritative frame. This is a beautifully defined, sculpted wine of the very highest level. Tar, smoke and licorice linger on the finish. The tannins are massive at this stage, and the wine needs time, but the 2005 is undoubtedly one of the stars of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.”

93 points Vinous: “Clerico’s 2000 Ciabot Mentin Ginestra has fared better than the Pajana, perhaps owing to the vineyard’s more sheltered south-west exposure. Layers of mint, spices and crushed rocks add complexity to the generous fruit. The finish remains vibrant, textured and polished, with a prominent scents of oak that are typical of Clerico’s wines during this era. I don’t see much upside in the Ciabot, but it should hold for another handful of years.”

Clerico Barolo Pajana 1996
2 bottles available
$150 per bottle
94 points Wine Advocate: “This is a spectacularly powerful, rich, concentrated wine. The striking resemblance of the 1996 Barolo Pajana to a top-class Pomerol is unmistakable. This massive wine possesses fabulous purity of fruit, and toasty, sweet pain grille that complements the wine’s highly concentrated black cherry/chocolatey personality. Dense and layered, with considerable viscosity, low acidity, and moderate tannin in the impressive, long finish, it will be at its best between 2006-2020. One of the most gifted winemakers in Piedmont, Domenico Clerico has fashioned this riveting wine from the vineyards surrounding the village of Monforte d’Alba. Clerico utilizes rotary fermenters, and new oak. This a wine of extraordinary richness, amazing aromatics, and a sensual personality that satiates both the hedonistic and intellectual senses.”

94 points Wine Advocate: “Approachable and open even at this young stage, the 2011 Barolo Pajana offers ripe fruit, blackberry preserves, spice, tobacco, leather, cola and grilled rosemary. These layers come together with beautiful fruit integration and focus with supple richness at the back. The Barolo Pajana offers soft, silky tannins with a solid texture. It feels firm and powerful on the palate.”

This is an utterly captivating Barolo for its sheer power, richness and opulence. Despite the wine’s size, there is plenty of detail and nuance to explore in this utterly sensual, captivating Percristina. Readers lucky enough to find the 2004 Percristina should not hesitate, it is superb! Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029.”
