ROUSSEAU MAZIS CHAMBERTIN 2010

Offered JUL 21st, 2017

“The trajectory of Armand Rousseau has been phenomenal in recent years. In particular, after the beatified 2005 vintages, the most revered Gevrey-Chambertin producer suddenly found itself amongst the Holy Grail, one whose wines are sought and fought over from London to New York to Hong Kong and everywhere in between. As I have written before, Rousseau is one of my benchmark producers as no doubt it is for many. Rousseau has been the source of some of the greatest wines I have ever consumed…I had already heard whispers of how good Rousseau’s 2012s were before my arrival and sure enough, tasting through their enviable portfolio, there are a clutch of quite brilliant wines destined to be fought over when allocations are released.” Neal Martin, Wine Advocate

94 points View From the Cellar: “As was the case with the beautiful 2010 Rousseau Mazy-Chambertin, the 2012 vintage’s inherent elegance has worked its magic on this wine. The great nose delivers a glorious constellation of red and black cherries, sweet, dark berries, dark soil tones, woodsmoke, gamebirds, cocoa and a lovely topnote of youthful Mazis’s strain of vegetality. On the palate the wine is very pure and full-bodied, with magical mid-palate depth and sappiness, a strikingly elegant rendition of this cru’s terroir, ripe tannins and outstanding soil drive and balance on the focused and very, very classy finish. There is not a shred of Mazy-Chambertin’s sometime youthfully sauvage personality to be found in this great, great wine. Another absolutely reference point example of this cuvée chez Rousseau!”

(93-95) points Wine Advocate: “The 2012 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet with lively red berry fruit mixed with bergamot and fresh strawberry. It does not quite have the presence of say Bernard Dugat’s example: more introverted and bashful. The palate is medium-bodied with candied red fruit on the opening, luscious red berries laced with orange zest and a hint of vanilla. The finish is nigh irresistible – full of vigor and tension with peach on the aftertaste. After a slow opening this finishes with grandeur and ambition.”
