Leflaive 2014

LEFLAIVE 2014

Offered MAR 3rd, 2017 – subject to availability / remaining unsold.

Leflaive must surely be the most celebrated producer of white wine anywhere, bar none. From the strength of their vineyard holdings in the great grand crus; Chevalier Montrachet, Batard, and Bienvenues, to the aristocratic Premier Crus of Puligny Montrachet, no other domaine has such impressive credentials. But the monumental achievement of Anne-Claude, like her father before her, is in making the definitive wine from each of her vineyards, year after year. For decades, indeed generations, Leflaive has provided the unmatched standard against which all other Burgundian domains were judged.

“2014 is the best vintage for white Burgundy in 20 years.”
–Etienne de Montille

Leflaive Chevalier Montrachet 2014
$750 per bottle

98 points John Gilman: “The Domaine Leflaive 2014 Chevalier-Montrachet is magical. The bouquet delivers a blend of great purity and refinement, wafting from the glass in a mix of apple, pear, incipient notes of pastry cream, acacia blossoms, fresh almond, chalky minerality and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and utterly seamless, with great depth in the mid-palate, with great focus and grip, enormous backend energy and a laser-like, extremely long and youthful finish. This is a step up from the very beautiful examples of Bienvenues and Bâtard in the 2014 vintage! “

Leflaive Batard Montrachet 2014
$595 per bottle

95 points John Gilman: “The domaine has a couple of different holdings in Bâtard-Montrachet and does not make the assemblage of the different parcels (which are fermented separately) until after the new year, so this example hails from a plot of fifty-plus year-old vines in the sector up above Bienvenues. The wine is stunning in its synthesis of power and elegance in 2014, delivering a superb and still quite youthful bouquet of apple, pear, again, just a touch of orange, spring flowers, a deep base of soil tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and youthfully buttoned up behind its fine girdle of acidity, with a great core of pure fruit, superb soil signature, racy acids and outstanding length and grip on the focused and very, very promising finish.”

Leflaive Bienvenues Batard Montrachet 2014
$525 per bottle

95+ points John Gilman: “The 2014 Domaine Leflaive Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet came in at 12.9 percent natural alcohol in this vintage and was chapitalized just a touch to prolong the fermentation a bit. This is a great bottle in the making, soaring from the glass in a blaze of apple, pear, a touch of tangerine, deep, pure soil tones, spring flowers and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and notably more concentrated at the core than any of the premier crus, with great cut and grip, superb focus and a very, very long and nascently complex finish. Stellar juice.”
