Jadot 2015

JADOT 2015

Offered FEB 23th, 2017 – subject to availability / remaining unsold.

Continuing our 2015 Red Burgundy campaign, we have made a selection from Jadot’s vast portfolio of some of the wines we feel deliver the best value for their price, at a variety of levels.

Jadot has quietly been making some of the most reliable and satisfying red wines of any of the high-quality negociants for three or more decades now.  It is no accident that many of the wines are in fact domaine wines from one of their many incorporated properties: Domaine Gagey, Duc de Magenta or Les Heritiers Jadot.  In 2015, as is often the case, they did really well and scored as high as more expensive neighbors.

Jadot Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses 2015
$325 per bottle

(92-95) points Vinous: “Alluring high-pitched perfume of red raspberry, peony and blood orange, with complicating oak spices. Densely packed and juicy, with a strong element of spicy oak currently keeping the primary fruit flavors in check. Boasts superb concentration and saline depth even if it’s quite backward today. Finishes with a note of licorice and substantial tannins that reach the front teeth. Offers outstanding potential but this Amoureuses will be difficult to drink in its youth.”

Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Clos St. Jacques 2015
$200 per bottle; $400 per magnum

(93-96) points Vinous: “Palish medium red. More subdued on the nose than the Estournelles Saint-Jacques but still with exhilarating blood orange lift to the raspberry aroma. Highly concentrated, silky, extremely youthful wine, combining outstanding breadth and inner-mouth perfume and lift. Its very intense, sharply delineated flavors of dark raspberry and crushed stone are given added punch and lift by urgent minerality. This compellingly horizontal, sappy wine finishes with utterly suave tannins and outstanding length, piquing the taste buds on the back end. Premier cru Burgundy does not get much better than this.”

Jadot Clos Vougeot 2015
$140 per bottle

(92-94) points Vinous: “Healthy dark red. Ripe aromas of black cherry, licorice, mocha and espresso. Highly concentrated but backward, conveying terrific intensity to its flavors of black cherry, wild herbs and salty minerality. As youthfully imploded as this wine is, it can’t hide its thickness of texture. Jadot’s vines in the lower part of the Clos along the Route Nationale benefited from the sweetness and roundness of the 2015 vintage, noted Barnier, but this wine does not convey a high-pH or late-picked impression (it was harvested on September 10). Finishes tactile, ripely tannic and long. Stuffed with fruit but does it have ultimate class?”

Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Estournelles St. Jacques 2015
$120 per bottle

(92-95) points Vinous: “Bright medium red. Floral perfume of great delicacy. Boasts a wonderfully refined texture but also terrific pungent floral and mineral lift to the intense red berry flavors. Conveys a very strong impression of savory acidity but Barnier insists that the technical numbers are similar to those of the Lavaux and Clos Saint-Jacques. Finishes brisk and palate-staining, with high-toned cranberry and raspberry fruit. I could drink a bottle of this! Barnier noted that this cool combe-influenced vineyard on very shallow soil included a lot of white vines when Jadot bought it from Clair-Daü in 1985 but that Jadot has replaced “most of them.” But the site has always produced “a naturally floral style and paler-colored wine,” Barnier added. In some past warm vintages that benefited from full ripeness, this wine has outperformed Jadot’s Clos Saint-Jacques on my scorecard, at least in the early going, but in 2015 the latter wine is even more stunning.”

Jadot Corton Pougets 2015
$115 per bottle

(93-95) points Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Corton Pougets Grand Cru, under the Domaine des Héritiers Jadot label, has a crisp, quite pure bouquet with the fruit a little darker than the Corton Grèves at the moment but equally well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, moderate depth, rounded in the mouth with layers of cranberry and strawberry fruit. There is a pinch of sea salt right on the finish that shows fine precision and focus. This is outstanding.”

Jadot Corton Marechaudes 2015
$115 per bottle

(92-94) points Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Corton Maréchaudes Grand Cru has a gentle and quite sensual bouquet with lifted raspberry coulis, cranberry and hints of cola developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, a fine line of acidity, crisp in the mouth with a silky smooth finish that renders this almost drinkable at this prenatal stage. I like the piquancy here and it is bestowed with fine length in the mouth.”

Jadot Nuits St. Georges Les St. Georges 2015
$99 per bottle

(92-94) points Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges felt a little withdrawn on the nose when I tasted it, missing the depth and breeding I look for in the auspicious vineyard. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red and black fruit. There is a firm backbone here, a nascent hardness that will disappear with bottling and bottle age. It is a wine of substance that needs to muster personality and grace.”

Jadot Nuits St. Georges Les Vaucrains 2015
$95 per bottle

(91-93) points Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains has much more personality and charm than the NSG Les Boudots, with copious red cherry and kirsch scents, hints of blood orange developing with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with supple tart red cherry fruit, a pleasant piquancy here with a focused, quite tensile finish that just needs to develop a little more length. Nonetheless, this is a classy Nuits Saint-Georges.”

Jadot Nuits St Georges Les Cailles 2015
$95 per bottle

(92-94) points Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles cocked a snook at the Les Saint Georges: much more generous and terroir-driven by comparison with wet limestone scents, rose petals and orange zest infusing the red cherry fruit. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, nicely focused and full of energy, almost Vosne Les Suchots in style towards what feels like a precocious yet balanced finish. This would be my pick of the NSG’s from Louis Jadot this vintage.”

Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Petite Chapelle 2015
$95 per bottle

(90-92) points Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle has an attractive wild strawberry and raspberry-scented bouquet with some lovely rose petal scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, a fine sense of salinity and a very detailed finish. Not the best known premier cru in Gevrey, yet this is a very commendable expression of the vineyard by the Jadot team.”

Jadot Corton Greves 2015
$95 per bottle

(92-94) points Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Corton Grèves Grand Cru was demonstrating some reduction on the nose, though underneath lie some decent black fruit that should offer good vigor once in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet supple tannin, well-judged acidity, harmonious in the mouth with a gentle but insistent grip on the silky smooth finish. Once the aromatics gain their cohesion and clarity, which they will, this will be a very fine Corton Grèves.”

Jadot Pommard Les Grands Epenots 2015
$85 per bottle

(92-94) points Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Grands Epenots offers appealing raspberry, cranberry and redcurrant scents on the nose, initially muted but quickly gaining vigor in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, orange rind and a touch of brown spice, gently fanning out towards the finish but never fully letting go. It does feel a little “rigid” at the moment, but it should mellow with 4-5 years in bottle.”

Jadot (Domaine des Heritiers) Beaune Boucherottes 2015
$60 per bottle

(91-93) points Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Beaune 1er Cru Les Boucherottes has a subtle bouquet that comes across more introspective than the 2015 Beaune Clos des Couchereaux, the fruit darker but equally well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, tensile tannin – plenty of tart red cherry fruit, quite saline in the mouth leading to an understated but very focused finish. This is another top-notch Beaune Premier Cru from Louis Jadot.”

Jadot (Domaine des Heritiers) Beaune Les Bressandes 2015
$55 per bottle

(90-92) points Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes has a satisfying density and cohesion on the nose, a mixture of red and black fruit with just a slight reductive tinniness that will go before bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This Bressandes has plenty of rondeur, a fine line of acidity with a slightly broody finish that should open up (eventually). This is a very capable Bressandes.”
