FAIVELEY 2015 1er Crus

Offered JUNE 25th, 2017

Since the domaine was founded in 1825, the Faiveley family has dedicated the major part of their resources to buying vineyards situated on the best slopes in Burgundy. They believe in strictly limited yields and carefully controlled production – meticulous methods that allow for wines that mature well. The wines’ complexity and longevity are ensured by the high average age of their vines, and they are outstandingly clean, rich, balanced, and concentrated. Francois Faiveley, who has recently retired, is succeeded by his son Erwan. The change of generation, enhanced by the arrival of Bernard Hervet as Managing Director, has made the business more dynamic.

Faiveley Nuits St. Georges Les Chaignots 2015
24 bottles available, $95 per bottle

(91-93) points Burghound: “A markedly floral nose offers up notes of herbal tea, earth, spice and both red and dark cherry nuances. There is both excellent volume and mid-palate concentration to the refined and lightly mineral-inflected flavors that possess focused power on the elegant and lingering finale. This is picture perfect Chaignots that should be approachable after only a few years of cellaring if that’s your preference.”

Faiveley Nuits St. Georges Les Porets St. Georges 2015
24 bottles available, $90 per bottle

(90-93) points Burghound: “A pretty if restrained nose speaks of various wild red berries, earth and once again sauvage nuances. The supple yet concentrated medium weight flavors possess both fine volume and detail on the punchy and lightly mineral-inflected finale that is less rustic than usual. What is entirely typical though is the expected aging curve as this is almost certainly to be extremely long-lived.”

Faiveley Nuits St. Georges Les St. Georges 2015
24 bottles available, $150 per bottle

(92-94) points Burghound: “This is more aromatically elegant with its spicy aromas of plum, rose petal, herbal tea, red cherry and earth. The tautly muscular, dense and mineral-driven flavors possess excellent size, weight and power while delivering strikingly good length on the beautifully balanced if very firm finish. Again, patience, and plenty of it, will be necessary.”

Faiveley Pommard Les Rugiens 2015
24 bottles available, $110 per bottle

(91-93) points Burghound: “Here the slightly toasty nose is sufficiently reduced that the nose is impossible to assess. Otherwise though there is a lovely sense of verve to the more obviously mineral-driven and more muscular flavors that firm up quickly on the dusty, sappy and youthfully austere finale. This is textbook Rugiens that is built-to-age.”

Faiveley Volnay Les Fremiets 2015
24 bottles available, $85 per bottle

(90-93) points Burghound: “There is just enough reduction present to suppress the underlying fruit but there is excellent freshness and punch to the pure, detailed and elegant middle weight flavors that brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract on the firm, balanced and beautifully persistent finale. This succulent and stylish effort should both drink reasonably well young but also reward extended keeping.”

Faiveley Volnay Santenots 2015
24 bottles available, $85 per bottle

(91-93) points Burghound: “A beautifully complex nose exhibits spicy and soft earth red and blue pinot fruit aromas that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is excellent mid-palate density to the tautly muscular medium weight flavors that also brim with dry extract and minerality before terminating in a gorgeously long and well-balanced finale.”
