DROUHIN 2015 AND FAIVELEY 2015 (PART TWO)

Offered MAY 4th, 2017

Originally from the Yonne department, Joseph Drouhin founded the negociant company which bears his name in 1880. His son Maurice took over in 1918, buying the first vineyards including the famous Beaune Clos des Mouches – it took him a while to put this together, since he had to buy the plots piecemeal from many different growers. This domaine is now run by Joseph’s grandchildren, and consists of 73 hectares spread throughout the region. All of their vineyards are farmed biodynamically, lending to the house signature of crafting elegant, refined and complex wines.

Since the domaine was founded in 1825, the Faiveley family has dedicated the major part of their resources to buying vineyards situated on the best slopes in Burgundy. They believe in strictly limited yields and carefully controlled production – meticulous methods that allow for wines that mature well. The wines’ complexity and longevity are ensured by the high average age of their vines, and they are outstandingly clean, rich, balanced, and concentrated. Francois Faiveley, who has recently retired, is succeeded by his son Erwan. The change of generation, enhanced by the arrival of Bernard Hervet as Managing Director, has made the business more dynamic.
