Continuing the campaign (2015 Red Burgundy) to bring you all of the most important or interesting red Burgundies in this great year, as they are released; we offer Bichot’s Clos Frantin, Vosne Romanee Malconsorts.
In Vosne Romane, along the southern border of the La Tache (monopole of the Domaine de la Romanee Conti) is the famous premier cru vineyard, Aux Malconsorts. With its exceptional location, and an altitude, exposition and a soil type very similar to its illustrious neighbor, it could very well be a grand cru.
The wines from Aux Malconsorts are of a prodigious finesse and elegance. The aromatic complexity of its floral, perfumed and often spicy notes are extraordinary; the silky tannins, the depth and the ethereal character of the body give the wine an airy dimension. They are among the wines that reveal the most refined expression of Pinot Noir.

(91-94) points Burghound: “A notably ripe and wonderfully spicy nose reflects notes of liqueur-like dark cherry, cassis, plum and violet. The dense, serious and markedly powerful big-bodied flavors brim with dry extract before terminating in a muscular and impressively long finish that also displays a hint of warmth. This is an imposingly-scaled and quite firmly structured effort that will require 12 to 15 years of bottle to arrive at its apogee.”
